The beautifully designed and detailed map of the Arabian Sea from Prevost d'Exiles' influential collection of travel narratives, Histoire Generale des Voyages, encompasses the coasts of present-day Oman (its capital is renedered as Maskat), Iran, and Pakistan; all of eastern India; and the Maldive Islands. The dramatic title cartouche state's that Bellin's map was published under the auspices of the Count of Maurepas.
