1. Carte des Pais Habites par les Samojedes et Ostiacs 2. Carte du Detroit de Waeigats ou de Nassau

Two maps by Bellin of the Arctic coast of European Russia and the island of Novaya Zemlya (Nouvelle Zemle), from the atlas volume of Prevost d'Exiles' Histoire Generale des Voyages. Depicting the coast from Archangelsk off the White Sea to the Yenisei Gulf and the "unknown" lands beyond, the first map identifies the territories of the indigenous Samoyed (Nenet) and Ostyak (Khanty and Ket) peoples. The second map focuses on the southern tip of Novaya Zemlya and the Waeigats (Kara) Strait separating it from the mainland, "named New Holland by the Dutch in 1594, today Samoyedland after its inhabitants." The map also indicates the route of the Dutch expedition through the strait in 1594.
