Plate XLI from Part II of de Bry's Grands Voyages chronicling the French colonial attempts in Florida in the 1560s. The plates are based on Le Moyne's famous drawings of the French expeditions and the customs of Florida natives. In this plate, Indians are shown "panning" for gold in the Apalatcy (Appalachian) Mountains, far from the French fort in the River May.
