Francois Nicolas Martinet's magnificently engraved and splendidly colored hummingbirds plate from the Comte de Buffon's Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux, one of the most important and comprehensive late 18th-century French ornithological works. The three featured birds are the Tufted Hummingbird of Cayenne, the Golden-Throated Hummingbird of Brasil, and the Green-Throated Hummingbird of Cayenne.
