Plate VII from Part II of de Bry's Grands Voyages chronicling the French colonial attempts in Florida in the 1560s. The plates are based on Le Moyne's famous drawings of the French expeditions and the customs of Florida natives. In Plate VII, the French, lacking provisions, seek assistance from King Ovade. They discover a fresh-water stream with large crocodiles and banks covered with cypresses. The king greets them kindly and has the French boat loaded with food supplies.
