A fascinating and beautifully designed "vue d'optique," or magic lantern print, showing a group of elegant French men and women disembarking in the New World to found the colony of Cayenne, or "Equinoxial France." Along the bottom of the image is a number key indicating the location of a Spanish fort, the caves of "savages," fishermen's huts and other local landmarks. Item Number: rs1768
