The first German edition of John Hawkesworth's landmark An Account of the Voyages Undertaken by the Order of His Present Majesty for Making Discoveries in the Southern Hemisphere, with volume one containing descriptions of the Carteret, Byron and Wallis voyages and volumes 2 and 3 consisting of eagerly-anticipated official account of James Cook’s first voyage to the Pacific. The beautifully preserved volumes contain 22 maps (including superbly detailed charts of Australia and the South Pacific, Tierra del Fuego, Tahiti, the Society Islands, New Zealand and New South Wales) and 30 plates depicting the peoples, places and artifacts encountered on these historic voyages.
