Volume 16 of the German edition of Prevost d'Exile's Histoire Generale des Voyages, with all 30 of the original maps and plans (derived from Bellin) and views of the eastern seaboard of North America and parts of South America (Brazil, the Guyanas, and Argentina). Unusual for this work, all the maps and plates are in full old color, beautifully applied. In addition to plates depicting people, costumes, customs, and sights of the Americas (including a wonderful view of Niagara Falls and a moving image of Florida native women strewing their hair over the graves of their husbands), the volume includes maps and plans by Bellin of La Plata River, Buenos Aires, Brazil (3 maps), San Salvador, Guyana, Virginia, New England, Boston, Carolinas and Georgia, Florida and Louisiana, Acadia and Isle Royale, Hudson Bay, St. Laurence River (2 maps), Quebec City, Great Lakes, and New Orleans. A superb exemplar of this German Prevost volume.
