A beautifully colored and preserved exemplar of Homann's magnificent map of the Maltese islands, with excellent topographical detail and many place names. The exuberant title cartouche depicts knights of Malta in prayer before an image of the crucified Christ. At the lower left is a double inset featuring a detailed plan of Valetta (with a letter key to its major sites and monuments) over a view of the city with a warship, its guns blazing, in the harbor. The inset is adorned with the Maltese coat of arms and the figure of Knight of Malta in antique garb surrounded by military gear. A breathtaking Malta map. Item Number: RS2871
