Nova Tabula Americae

Sandrart's magnificent Western Hemisphere map, based on de Wit's 1675 Americas map, is one of the earliest maps known to have been engraved by J.B. Homann. The highly decorative map depicts California as an island, the Great Lakes partly undefined, and in the Pacific, parts of New Guinea, the Solomon islands, and Australia ("Quiri Regio"). Includes several compass roses, many sailing ships, a title cartouche showing the triumph of faith over evil and an illustration at the lower left corner of scenes of native life.
