Carte Reduite des Parties Septentrionales du Globe, Situees entre l'Asie et l'Amerique

This item has been sold. Please check our homepage for currently available maps.
Bellin's fascinating chart of the "northern parts of the globe between Asia and America" from Prevost d'Exiles' influential collection of travel narratives, Histoire Generale des Voyages. On the right is northeastern Canada from Baffin Bay to the Great Lakes and on the left, northeastern Asia down to the Kamchatka Peninsula. In between are the barely delineated coast of Alaska ("lands seen by the Russians in 1728") and notes on explorations by the Russians, Juan de Fuca, and Admiral Fuente, as well as speculation on the likely position of the Western Sea (Mer de l'Ouest).
