A composite page from the atlas volume of Prévost d'Exiles' influential collection of travel narratives, Histoire Générale des Voyages, featuring, on the left, a plan of the British Fort William in the Kingdom of Whydah on the coast of West Africa in what is now Benin. On the right are views of the coast near the San Andero (Sassandra) River in present-day Ivory Coast and of Fort Santo Antonio, near the town of Axim, a main Portuguese slave-trading post on the south coast of today's Ghana.
