A later Latin edition of the magnificent Americas map produced by Hondius for his first edition of the Mercator. This key, early European settlement map features a wealth of information and misinformation about the New World, including a lake in Brazil that is depicted as the common source of the Amazon and the Rio de la Plata and an oversized North America. Many of the decorative motifs and vignettes are derived from de Bry. The famous vignette at the lower left shows Brazilian Indians brewing beer.
