The beautifully detailed and colored Asian continent map from the 1870 edition of Mitchell's popular New General Atlas of the world. Framed by the decorative vine motif border typical of Mitchell maps of the mid-1860s to 1881, the map encompasses the vast territory from France to Oceania (the Marianas and New Guinea) and shows the sea routes between London and various ports in India, Borneo, China, and the Philippines. A small chart in the Arabian Sea lists the distances between London and Madras, Calcutta, Singapore, Hong Kong. Chusan, and Manila.
