Moll's magnificent, large scale map of the Middle East and Asia including the East Indies, dedicated to the Right Honourable William, Lord Cowper, Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain. The map includes seven insets (the Hellespont, Gulf of Smirna, Bombay, Hugly River, the Ice Sea, Chusan Island, and Amoy Island off the China coast), and perpetuates characteristic misconceptions of early 18th century cartography such as New Guinea as a peninsula of the southern continent and Iapon or Niphon [i.e. Japan] having a huge northern island called Land of Iesso (presumably the islands of Hokkaido and Sakhalin). The title and dedication are contained within a splendidly decorative cartouche featuring Asian figures and products.
