A delightful botanical plate featuring plants of New Guinea (nos. 1 and 2) and Australia (New Holland, 3–10), engraved by Louise Duvivier Tardieu for the 1705 French edition of Voyages and Travels, the popular collection of travel narratives by the English three-time circumnavigator William Dampier. Illustrated with Dampier's simple but charming sketches of the flora, fauna, and people of the exotic locales he visited, the book was first published in England in 1697 as A New Voyage Around the Word.
