The rare atlas volume of the third French edition of George Staunton's account of the 1790s voyage to the interior of China and to Tartary by Lord Macartney,British ambassador to China, published by F. Buisson in the year XII (1804). Includes 37 beautifully engraved views of Chinese sites and plates illustrating the manners, dress and customs of the Chinese people, plus a map of China divided into nine provinces and three large folding maps: 1. The route of the Embassy from Britain to China; 2. The route of the Embassy from Jehol to Peking and from there down to Hangzhou; 3. The Embassy's route from Hangzhou to Canton. A fascinating record of late 18th-century China.
